6th form Art and Textiles students enjoyed a fabulous workshop day by Jeni Cairns at her Juniper House studio https://www.juniperhouseemporium.com/.
Building on our 6th Form success raising money for the Alan Hudson Hospice project, pupils were invited to help form the metalwork sculpture for the garden centre piece, designed by Jeni. Ably assisted by Kim Flint, garden designer and lead on the project, pupils cut copper and formed a 3D variety shapes of birds and leaves by hammering to create texture and definition. These will then be combined and attached to entwined metal rods to create the final sculpture. Jeni also demonstrated plasma cutting, a technique frequently used in her large scale intricate design of metal screens and sculptures as well as in her popular circular oil drum designs.
This was a great opportunity for our pupils to work with a successful practicing artist and gives the opportunity to see their work on permanent display for a very worthwhile cause.
