WGS pupils achieve 2nd place at the annual Student Robotics competition

5th June 24

A team of eight 6th Form pupils joined the annual Student Robotics competition at the University of Southampton. The team faced 24 other teams from across the UK and Europe. Their robot, named “Ok_Pancakes”, kicked off strongly, however, encountered issues with the lifting arm later in the afternoon.

Undeterred, the team rallied on and diligently rectified the problems. Their efforts paid off, clinching 2nd place in the league, propelling them straight through to the quarter-finals of the knockout stage. With two more solid performances, they advanced to the final showdown, facing formidable opponents and former winners from Munich, London and Guernsey.

Following an intense battle and a daring strategy, victory narrowly slipped from their grasp at the final buzzer. They secured second place after Germany. The team also marked WGS’s best ever performance since entering the competition. Mr Cole and Mr Dunlop, who lead the Robotics Club are extremely proud of their team!

Well done to all, what an incredible achievement!
