GCSE Joy for Wisbech Grammar School Pupils

23rd August 24

There was a palpable sense of excitement at Wisbech Grammar School this morning as pupils eagerly awaited their GCSE results. The anticipation quickly turned to celebration as the school marked another outstanding year of academic achievement.

Several pupils distinguished themselves by earning top grades across a wide range of subjects, with many achieving the maximum grade of 9 in multiple subjects.

Headmaster Barney Rimmer expressed his pride in the students’ accomplishments, stating, “This has been another remarkable year of GCSE results for the Wisbech Grammar School community. We continue to exceed national pass rates overall, and this cohort of pupils should be immensely proud of what they have achieved. The dedication of our staff, combined with the unwavering support from parents and guardians, has been instrumental in this success.”

He further commented on the significance of these results, saying, “These achievements reflect the inspired teaching and the broad enrichment opportunities available at WGS, alongside the strong work ethic of our pupils. I am incredibly proud of everyone associated with these results.”

Our pupils were naturally in great spirits, with many opting to open their results in person with their peers. Vaaruni, one of the standout performers, was shocked but delighted with her results. “I am especially pleased with my English result, where I had achieved a 6 in my mocks, but Mrs Timmis was so supportive whenever I needed her, so to now get an 8 was amazing. I used to be quite shy, but I have learned to be more confident at WGS and able to ask questions when I needed help.”

James, another pupil who was all smiles this morning, will continue at WGS to study Biology, Chemistry, and History. “I am very happy with my results; the revision sessions that the school organised were so valuable and helped me with my Maths and German results in particular.” Reflecting on some advice he could give pupils just starting their GCSE journey, he added, “Having your friends there to support and spur you on was invaluable for revision. Also, make sure you don’t neglect the summer after your first year, as you can get out of good habits!”
