On Saturday 21 January pupils visited Franklin’s Gardens to watch two rugby matches at the Northampton famous ground. Firstly, Northampton Saints played La Rochelle in the Heineken Cup followed by the Saints U18 Academy against Wasps for the Academy Premier League, where U6 WGS Rugby Captain Ashton Webb was playing.
WGS were also present to celebrate the ongoing partnership with the Northampton Saints. At the half time interval WGS were invited onto the pitch to be presented with a framed rugby shirt signed by the Saints 1st team squad.
At the end of the Saints La Rochelle match our Head of Rugby, Dan Nunn presented the man of the match award to La Rochelle player and French international Gregory Alldritt on behalf of Heineken. We would like to thank Gilbert Rugby for this opportunity.
Finally the second game saw U6 pupil Ashton Webb play in for Northampton Saints under 18s against Wasps Academy, having already played in the wins against Sale and Worcester in January. This was a physical encounter, but Northampton came out on top scoring some great tries and securing a hard-fought victory to keep them at the top of the Premiership Academy U18 league. The Academy have two league games remaining against Bath and Newcastle and we wish Ashton the best of luck for the remaining matches!
