Wisbech Grammar School hosted its 4th annual University and Careers Fair as part of the Higher Education Day. The day involved all 4th, 5th and L6th Form pupils and gave them the opportunity to talk to a range of different universities and businesses as they explore their post-A-Level options for work and study. Some of the 18 delegates in attendance included Kier Construction, Bespak, Loughborough University, University of Portsmouth, UCFB and the University of Southampton.
The event began with an ‘Open Fair’ in Skelton Hall, where all the pupils were able to go round the stands and speak with the different delegates. Afterwards, pupils were offered over 20 talks, ranging from ‘how to choose my A-Levels’, selecting the right university and course, careers in Engineering, and Apprenticeships, amongst many.
After lunch, the Lower 6th pupils embarked on the start of their ‘Onward Journey’ with personalised Personal Statement workshops in small groups before spending some time with their tutors to start developing their own statements, whilst the 5th Form explored ‘Work Experience’ ahead of the summer.
“It was another fantastic event which is a vital part of the ‘Onward Journey’ element for pupils at Wisbech Grammar School. It marks the start of the road for the 4th Form, a key marker for the 5th Form and the beginning of UCAS or job applications for the L6th Form – which makes it such an important event for our pupils. My thanks to all the delegates who attended as well as all the support staff and teaching staff who allowed the event to run so smoothly during a full working day. It shows the togetherness of our community as they all work together in supporting our pupils towards the next part of their journey.” Mr Alex Laybourne, Head of Careers
